1979 Mercedes Benz 450 SEL 6.9 has long been considered one of the worlds greatest sedans. And this car is one of the finest examples I've ever seen. They only made a total of 7,380 in in the five years they were produced. 1,816 of those were imported into the US with a price tag between $50,000 and $80,000 and US restrictions that eliminated over 32hp, the standard ride height adjustment, and a different exterior trim package.
This is a like new, excellent condition, extremely rare European or "Gray Market" import without the US restrictions or modifications. It is a true factory rated 140mph vehicle. But road tested at speeds around 150mph. Some of the unique features of the 6.9 include a remarkable self-leveling hydro-pneumatic suspension system that consists of a hydraulic strut that mounts in place of the coil spring and shock absorber at each wheel. The telescoping struts support the car with oil pressure generated by a small radial-piston pump on the engine. A separate bell-shaped pressure reservoir, connected to each strut by a high-pressure hose, contains a permanently sealed charge of nitrogen gas that functions as a spring. ALL OF THE COMPONENTS OF THIS SYSTEM HAVE BEEN REPLACED LESS THAN 100 MILES AGO.
The 6.9 was also one of the first vehicles to come equipped with a electromechanical fuel injection system standard (At a time when fuel injection was almost unheard of). With a dry sump engine lubrication system that circulates 12 quarts(instead of the standard 6 quarts) between a storage reservoir and the engine and recommends oil changes every 12,500 miles instead of the standard 3,000. And also one of the first with electronically controlled anti-lock brakes standard with disk brakes front and rear.
This vehicle has a brand new interior. It is exceptionally clean and detailed inside and out including the engine compartment, trunk, and undercarriage.
